YMCA eSports League Kicks Off
The Heart of the Valley YMCAs eSports program kicked off on Saturday, February 19th with our first eSports Rocket League for children ages 8-12. For now, it's all in a remote format, but the Y has plans to expand with a variety of games to different age groups in the coming months.
"It's a lot of social interaction that a lot of children aren't getting at this moment or for the past few years, and I think we can facilitate that in a safe way," eSports Coordinator Hunter Johnson said. The program is also making sure to play cross-platform games so a player can use a computer, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox.
YMCA eSports will encourage and promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on involvement, healthy competition rather than rivalry, the value of participation over winning, team-building as well as individual development, a positive self-image and mutual respect for others.
