Scholars in the Heart of the Valley YMCA Extended Adventures Program in Guntersville built scale models of the Webb Space Telescope, the telescope that will be launched in the Spring of 2019 to replace the Hubble Telescope. John Cranston in partnership with Greg Laue from Trac 9, a local Engineering Services company, included our students in the STEAM project. Parts of the Webb Telescope were designed and built at their company, and their mission is to include as many students in this project as they can before the launch date. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be included! Students in the afterschool program, a partnership of Heart of the Valley YMCA, The Schools of Guntersville and 21st Century Community Learning Centers, learned about the science behind the telescopes and signed a reflective shield that will be on display at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Check out the photos from their project afternoon!
