The Downtown Express YMCA Is Moving to the Historic Times Building

The Heart of the Valley YMCA is excited to announce the relocation of the Downtown Express YMCA to a brand-new facility in the Historic Times Building. Located just a few blocks from our current location on Church Street, this move will allow us to expand services, enhance amenities, and better serve the growing Downtown Huntsville community.

Below is everything you need to know about the closure, reopening, new amenities, member access during the transition, and how you can preview the new space before opening day.

  • Current Downtown Express YMCA closes permanently:
    Monday, Nov. 3 at 8:00 a.m.

  • New Downtown Express YMCA opens:
    Monday, Nov. 10 at 5:00 a.m.

New Features and Amenities

The new facility has been designed with convenience, flexibility, and an enhanced member experience in mind. Some of the key features include:

  • 24/7 member access

  • New cardio and strength equipment

  • Functional fitness space

  • Group exercise studio

  • Dedicated child watch area

  • Men’s and women’s locker rooms + saunas

  • Convenient parking garage access directly across the street

This updated location will continue to offer the welcoming environment members value, with expanded features to meet diverse wellness needs.

Member Access During the Transition

While the Downtown Express YMCA is closed from Nov. 3 through Nov. 9, all members are welcome to use the following YMCA branches at no additional cost:

  • Hogan Family YMCA in Madison

  • Southeast Family YMCA in Huntsville

Your membership grants you full access to these branches, including all amenities, group fitness classes, and wellness resources.

Preview Tour Opportunities

We invite all members and the public to explore the new Downtown Express YMCA before the official opening. Staff will be available for guided tours and to answer questions.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 5 – Friday, Nov. 7: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, Nov. 8: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

  • Sunday, Nov. 9: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Special Giveaway: All preview tour attendees will receive an exclusive Downtown Y luggage tag while supplies last.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Please join us for a community celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony, held in partnership with the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber.
