Stand With Us: A Letter to Members from YMCA President/CEO Jerry Courtney
Dear Valued Members,
I hope this letter finds you and your families doing well and all are healthy and safe. If you need help, call us.
We appreciate the kind notes, telephone calls, and gifts that we have received in support of our community during this time of crisis.
Right now, your YMCA is continuing our tradition of caring for the community. Here’s what we’re doing:
- Providing essential child care for the families of first responders, health care workers, emergency personnel, and others on the front lines.
- Making hundreds of well-being calls to seniors to see how they are doing and if they need assistance. Our YMCA team is intentionally reducing the real and perceived fears of isolation. We want our seniors to know they aren’t alone.
- Providing virtual programs including more than 70 exercise classes online as well as a variety of engaging activities for all, accessible on our web site at www.ymcahuntsville.org. Content is updated weekly.
The most recent executive order from the Alabama Department of Public Health requires us to close our facilities – except for essential worker child care – through April 17.
Our community expects us to be as strategic as possible when making decisions that ensure the YMCA’s ability to serve long-term. Over $8 million of our revenue (81%) comes from membership and program fees. Our closed facilities are dramatically affecting the lives of our members, program participants, staff and the financial position of our YMCA.
We are asking you, as a Y member, to STAND WITH US by continuing your bank draft as a contribution during these difficult times. Normal monthly drafts will take place. Become more than a consumer of YMCA services. Become a sustainer of our YMCA Association and Mission and an investor in the health and well-being of our community.
If this is something you can’t do, I ask you to place your membership on hold by contacting your branch membership director beginning March 30.

Sincerely,
Jerry Courtney
