At the Heart of the Valley YMCA, we partner with several insurance providers to offer memberships that help you invest in your health at little to no cost. Members enjoy full access to our fitness centers, pools, group exercise classes, and more. Below is a guide to the insurance programs we currently participate in.
For specific details regarding your plan’s coverage, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly. Please note that while the YMCA does not determine these benefits, we are happy to help you navigate the process once your provider establishes your eligibility.
Participating Insurance Plans
Renew Active is a Medicare fitness program for body and mind available exclusively from UnitedHealthcare Medicare Supplement through AARP plans.
- Eligibility: Available for individual memberships with premium plans. The basic plan is ineligible.
- Cost: Members pay nothing, as the YMCA is reimbursed through the insurance company based on attendance check-ins.
- How to Join: You must join in person at one of our branches. Please bring with you a valid Confirmation Code from your provider. These codes typically start with the letter “A” followed by 9 digits.
- Benefits: Includes “Nationwide” privileges and access to standard membership services.
One Pass is provided by select Medicare/Medicaid plans and provides eligible members access to participating fitness locations to support an active lifestyle.
- Eligibility: Individual memberships for select Medicare/Medicaid plans with premium plans.The basic plan is ineligible.
- Cost: The membership is free based on attendance check-ins.
- How to Join: You must join in person at one of our branches. Please bring with you a valid confirmation code starting with “A” followed by 9 digits.
- Benefits: Includes “Nationwide” privileges and access to all standard membership services and privileges.
Active Fit and Silver Fit are provided by multiple insurance companies. The Heart of the Valley YMCA is a Premium Facility for these programs.
- Eligibility: Only insured individuals with Premium plans are eligible to use our facilities; those with standard insurance are not eligible. This is for individual memberships only.
- Cost: Eligible members pay directly to their insurance for their code, check with your insurance provider for specific cost and details. The member pays nothing at the YMCA.
- How to Join: You must join in person at one of our branches. Please bring with you a valid confirmation code from your insurance company.
- Accepted Carriers in Alabama: Participating carriers include Cigna Healthcare, Moda Health, Physicians Mutual, United American Insurance Company, Viva Medicare, Wellcare, and the Pers Health Insurance Program.
Blue Cross Blue Shield (BC/BS) Alabama Flex Card: We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield Flex Cards, these cards are loaded with $90 a quarter. The remaining membership fee is paid by the member quarterly.
Programs Not Offered
SilverSneakers: This program is NOT offered at Heart of the Valley YMCA. While we recognize the value of staying active, we have chosen to partner with other Medicare providers to offer full access to our facilities and a wide range of health education and wellness offerings.

You should contact your insurance provider or the customer service number on the back of your insurance ID card to verify your specific fitness benefits.
YMCA does not participate in SilverSneakers ® which is offered to most of Humana’s Medicare Advantage plan members. However, contact Humana directly to learn if you are eligible for other fitness reimbursement or programs.
Once you have confirmed your plan includes a YMCA benefit, ask your provider for your fitness ID or confirmation code. You can often find this by logging into your insurance provider’s website or calling them.
For Renew Active and One Pass, there is no cost to the member at the YMCA.
For Silver&Fit and Active&Fit, you must pay your monthly fee to your insurance provider to maintain your code, but you pay nothing at our facility.
It is important to scan your membership card each time you visit. Most insurance plans require that you use the facility and scan in monthly to maintain your membership benefits.
No. Insurance-paid plans are for individual memberships only. Family members who are not eligible through their own insurance must sign up for a separate regular membership.
No. You only need to provide your member code when you initially register. After registration, you will check in using our standard process for members.
