Heart of the Valley YMCA and Huntsville City Schools Renew Three-Year Partnership to Continue Afterschool Care Services

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (July 16, 2026) – The Heart of the Valley YMCA and Huntsville City Schools (HCS) have renewed their partnership through a new three-year agreement, continuing the YMCA’s role as the official provider of afterschool care services at six south Huntsville elementary schools: Challenger, Weatherly, Mountain Gap, Chaffee, Whitesburg and Farley.

Since launching the partnership in January 2026, the YMCA has worked alongside Huntsville City Schools to provide a safe, enriching environment where students can learn, grow and thrive after the school day ends. The renewed agreement reflects the success of the collaboration and a shared commitment to supporting local children and families.

“We’re proud to continue this partnership with Huntsville City Schools,” said Rob Gray, President and CEO of the Heart of the Valley YMCA. “Over the past year, we’ve seen firsthand the positive impact this collaboration has had on students, families and school communities. We’re grateful for the trust Huntsville City Schools has placed in the YMCA and look forward to building on this successful partnership for the next three years.”

Through this partnership, the YMCA’s professional childcare team will provide:
• A daily snack
• Engaging, supervised afterschool programming
• Onsite childcare
• Services offered until 6 p.m. on all days HCS is in session

The YMCA’s afterschool program focuses on providing a welcoming environment where children build friendships, develop confidence, receive academic support and participate in activities that promote healthy living and character development.

“This partnership has been mutually rewarding for both organizations because we share the same goal of helping young people succeed,” Gray said. “Together, we’re providing families with trusted, high-quality care while creating opportunities for children to reach their full potential.”

Safety remains the YMCA’s highest priority. All YMCA childcare staff are trained in child abuse prevention and successfully complete comprehensive background checks and drug screenings as a condition of employment.
