Youth in Government

The Youth in Government program is for grades 9-12 and gives youth the opportunity to learn firsthand about government and civic issues by taking an active role in the democratic process, boosting youth development and contributing to a stronger community. Alabama Youth in Government programs includes two main components: Youth Judicial and Youth Legislature.

Youth Judicial

The Youth Judicial is a three-day mock trial

Teens work with legal professionals in their communities to develop an understanding of real-life case law and the role of the court system in a democratic society. Students take on the roles of lawyers and witnesses and try a mock case before youth judges.
Youth Legislature

Youth Legislature is a Hands on Program

Over 400 high school students take over state government for three days. Participants are required to write a bill on a topic of their choice and take it through the legislative process. Exciting elections, debates, a dance, and lots of fellowship top off this wholesome educational experience.
Alabama Youth in Government

Developing Knowledgeable and Active Citizens

The goal of Alabama Youth in Government is to develop young people who will be better citizens by being both knowledgeable and active in determining the future of our democracy. Alabama YIG programs include: Youth Judicial, Youth Legislature, Collegiate Youth Legislature, Youth Conference on National Affairs, Youth in City, and numerous leadership retreats and trainings throughout the year.
